Meet your night nanny...
I'm Joanne (Joey), your dedicated night nanny and the visionary behind 'The Night Nanny' service.
My journey in childcare began as a daytime Nanny, where I nurtured infants of many ages and honed essential skills. From there, I became a live-in Au-pair in Lugano, Switzerland, for 18 months, learning professionalism and adaptability.
Returning to Auckland, I provided dedicated care to multiple families, spanning newborns to 10-year-olds. After nurturing my own family, I joined Castor Bay Infant Care Centre, a bespoke early learning centre, as an educator and, eventually becoming a co-owner and director.
Now, in 2025, I'm excited to pursue certification as a Sleep Consultant, aiming to make new parents' lives easier.
Joey.

What does a night nanny do?
A night nanny, also known as a night nurse or baby nurse, is a professional caregiver who provides overnight care and support to newborns, infants, and their parents. The primary role of a night nanny is to assist parents in caring for their baby during the night, allowing the parents to get some much-needed rest. The specific job description may vary depending on the family's needs, but common responsibilities include:
Nighttime Feedings: Prepare and feed the baby during nighttime feedings. This includes bottle feeding or assisting with breastfeeding.
Diaper Changes: Attend to the baby's diapering needs as required throughout the night.
Comforting and Soothing: Comfort and soothe the baby when they wake up, ensuring they go back to sleep easily. This may involve rocking, swaddling, or other comforting techniques.
Monitoring Health: Keep an eye on the baby's overall health and well-being during the night, and notify parents of any concerns or issues.
Sleep Training: Implement and follow any sleep training methods or routines provided by the parents to help the baby establish healthy sleep patterns.
Nighttime Routine: Establish and maintain a nighttime routine for the baby to promote a sense of security and consistency.
Record Keeping: Maintain a log or record of the baby's nighttime activities, such as feedings, diaper changes, and sleep patterns, to provide parents with updates.
Assist with Postpartum Recovery: Offer support and assistance to postpartum mothers, especially if they are recovering from childbirth.
Light Housekeeping: Perform light housekeeping tasks related to the baby's care, such as washing bottles and baby laundry.
Communication: Keep open communication with parents to update them on the baby's progress and address any concerns or questions they may have.
It's important to note that the specific duties of a night nanny can be customized based on the family's preferences and the baby's unique needs. Some families may require a night nanny for a short-term basis, such as during the early weeks or months after childbirth, while others may hire a night nanny for a more extended period. The goal is to provide support and assistance to parents, helping them navigate the challenges of caring for a newborn while ensuring the well-being of the baby.
